Knowing what the must haves to take on a trip can get tricky and can differer trip by trip. In the past I have googled what other’s have typed up on their packing list and then I created my own. Over the years there are some staple items that I have added to my packing list that must go with me on every trip.
Witch hazel is beneficial for your skin and I have used it as a cleanser on my skin and to help get rid of puffy eyes and dark circles around the eyes. Then I found out that witch hazel can also help out with external hemorrhoids. When you are desperate, most people will try anything. It really worked! It relieved the itching and helps the hemorrhoid shrink. Just use a cotton ball our a bit of toilet paper to apply. I did have to repeat the process a few times throughout a few days.
Bandaids are a must! You never know when you will get a cut or a blister. I also bring Watkins Medicated Ointment to help heal the cut.
Tums, Pepto-Bismol, and Tylenol also come in handy incase you start not feeling the best. Sometimes you just don’t know how your stomach will react to new foods or catch a bug while traveling. To also help keep my body/skin healthy I bring at least three bottles of sun screen for beach or summer trips, aloe vera, bug spray, chap stick, and refreshing eyes drops.
One of the best items I bought for traveling was packing cubes to organize my clothing. It just makes it easier to find your casual, formal, sleep, and beach wear. I just got mine off of Amazon when they were on sale. They rip open and I feel can hold quite a bit especially when you roll your clothing. Plus they are so easy to store too!

More than one pair of shoes! I broke my sandals on the beach and luckily my friend brought an extra pair that I could use. So I learned that lesson and added two pairs of sandal to my packing list. Also now that I have plantar fasciitis, there is always a pair of tennis shoes and socks in my luggage no matter the destination.
Hats and sun glasses always seem to make my must have list too! Especially if I plan to go walking, hiking, or boating to protect my eyes and head from the sun. A baseball hat is always packed and then a beach hat is usually added because I tend to go to a beach destination. With the sun glasses, I take two pairs incase on breaks. My last trip I went through three pairs!!! I even tried the anti slip strap but those ocean waves can knock you over flat and I stood up with only one lens still in the glasses. That was a sight! Then another pair fell of my head and the third pair… well I have no clue. They just broke. So now I bring back up pairs!
A reusable water bottle. Most of us carry one of these around regularly but they are great to fill up once you have checked in at the airport and have gone through customs or to have as you drive in your car. You can always refill them at you logging location or at a restaurant or truck stop. A few of my friends mentioned that they now take hydration packets too.
Books!!! I don’t think I’d survive a trip without a good book! So recently I drive I listen to audible books when I go on road trips. Since my car still has a CD player, I just rent the audible books from the public library. If you have a car that doesn’t have one, you could also down load it on your phone or computer (or what ever device you prefer to read on.) Libby is a mobile app that you can down load books if you have access to wifi. The last audio book I listen to was called Sizzle by Julie Garwood. I found the story to be enjoyable and laugh out funny at times with a bit of romance. When I go on a girls’ trip, an actual paper book is perfect for me because then you can trade when ever someone else is done with their book. Plus I’m usually a slower reader than my other two travel friends so it works out in my favor at times and I get introduced to new authors. Mary Kay Andrews seems to be the author I navigate towards for my beach trips… her settings are near beach towns.
I’m sure my list will keep growing and changing depending on the destination and my age. Hope my packing updates helped out a bit.
