Book your trip with a good read. As much as I love to hear about other people’s trip, what they recommend to do, or where to stay, I also ask for book recommendations. How could I possibly travel with out a good story line?

I have a few go to authors that seem never to disappoint. I wrote about some of my go to authors and about a favorite book or books by each one.

The books I read by Mary Kay Andrews novels revolved around love, mystery murders, bit of humor, and secrets that hooked me. The recent book I read was the Home-Wreckers, which I bought as a gift, and then had to borrow it after hearing my friends opinion about the book.In the book, Hattie, flips houses and gets the chance to flip a beach house that is one disaster after another. Then a cast mate from show called “Home Wreckers” sweeps in with his great ideas to help save the project. After putting all that she has into the beach house, she needs it to turn out to be a success. Other books I truly enjoyed and was disappointed when they ended by her were The Newcomer, Beach Town, The Weekenders, and Sunset Beach.

Sometimes in life you need a book, where you just laugh out loud. I literally did when I read Angry Housewives by Lorna Landvik. The book that takes place over 30 years is about five woman who are in book club, they call Angry House Wives Eat Bon Bons, that develop a strong friendships, share their lives ups and downs, and secrets. Each chapter is narrated by the character who hosts that months book club. As you read you get caught up in the characters’ lives, their children, and everything life seems to hand them. This book club uses laughter, desserts, and friendship to help solve all their problems.

Colleen Hoover is a master at adding twist. I wouldn’t say November 9 was a true love story but it definitely was an interesting read. Fallen, one of the main characters, meets Ben at a local restaurant before she starts her new career across-country. The two develop a strong friendship and Ben encourages her where father failed to do so but the relationship takes a turn when Fallen learns a secret that Ben has been holding from her.

For an emotional roller coaster type read, Kristen Hannah’s books are amazing. My personal favorite is Winter Garden. In the book two sisters, Meriedith and Nina, who have a difficult cold relationship with their mother Anya, learn about a their mother’s other life and family she had in Russia during World War II before they were born. The story goes back and forth from present to past as their mom’s tragic life secrets are exposed and the daughters try to start to understand their mother and why she is so cold to her daughters. Other books that I was quite enjoyed were The Nightingale, Firefly Lane, and True Colors.

Elin Hilderbrand wrote a trilogy that has a story about secrets, double lives, and second chances at love. The books are Winter in Paradise, What Happens in Paradise, and Trouble in Paradise. In the story, when FBI shows up at her door steps, everything Irene Steele though about her husband and her marriage has her questioning everything. Her life gets tossed upside down when she learns about her husbands double life, his tragic death, and his second family. The family travels to St. Johns to unravel the truth and try to comprehend all the secrets that are coming to light. Eventually Irene uproots from Iowa City to paradise in St.Johns where she is given a second chance in life with unique circumstances and to her surprise both her adult sons have the same plan to start over. I could not put these books down.

If you need more ideas for books, invite a few friends for coffee or wine and and a sip and slip party where they spill all about the last book they read or a book they recommend. The books that I listed on this blog were all book recommendations that I have truly enjoyed reading. I still have a pile waiting for me and one set aside booked for my next adventure.
